Mark Powell was born August 24th 1954 in San Francisco to Relas and Alice Powell. Mark passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on March 9th 2022. He was a longtime resident of Madera, Ca. He
spent much of his youth growing up between Fresno and the Bay Area. He would marry the love of his life Linda Biehle on November 15, 1975 and they would move from Fresno to Madera in 1978 where he would live until his death. They would be married for 46 years and be blessed with two sons, Christopher and Jonathan. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, papa, and friend.
Mark attended Mclane High where he wrestled, participated in track and field and played football helping the team win their last Valley Championship in 1973. After high school Mark followed his father and went to work at PG&E. He would be employed by PG&E for the next 45 years achieving Master Welder certification. From 1981 to 1986 Mark was a member of the Hemman Limited and Super Modified racing teams serving as a mechanic. In 1991 Mark would suffer a life changing injury while working with PG&E and would return to active status but would eventually be placed on long term disability for the rest of his career. He would take his knowledge learned as a master welder and go back to school to become a Mechanical Draftsman which he worked as for several years. He would eventually choose a different career path seeking a better suited schedule to continue to work with the youth of Madera choosing to go to work for Madera Unified as a school bus driver. He would continue in this role for 10 years until he retired.
Mark had a life long love of sports which he imparted on his sons and also on the youth of Madera. He coached or helped with many of his sons community sports teams including soccer, baseball, wrestling and football. He helped coach with both Madera Little League’s minor’s and major’s teams over the years and even became an Umpire for the their National League. Mark would later help coach the Madera Junior East community football team. He would coach with this team for several years and when the program transitioned from a community team to the 7th grade team at Thomas Jefferson Middle School he helped coach for their inaugural season. Mark coached wrestling at Lincoln Elementary for several years and coached them to a City Championship in 2001. He would eventually move on to help coach Madera Highs Freshman, JV, and Varsity wrestling teams for several years helping to coach them to many victories across each team.
He is Preceded into Death by his parents Relas Redford and Alice Nellie Powell of Fresno, Ca.
He is survived by his wife Linda Powell, his sons Christopher Powell and his wife Brianna, Jonathan Powell and his wife Kiran, his three grandchildren, who were his true joy, Zachary, Nimmi, and Parker Powell, his sister Kathi and husband George Arabia, his mother-in-law, brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, his nephew and nieces along with their spouses and his great nephews and nieces.
