KehChien was born in Nanjing, China to Zhen Yuan Lee and Shu Jane Shen on April 10, 1929.
She went to National Twelfth High School in Wuhan city, China and graduated in 1948. She attended the National Taiwan University in Taipei, Taiwan and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics in 1953.
KehChien has a distinguished teaching career for 4 decades. She started by teaching English in junior high school and high schools. She went on to teach English in colleges. She was an associate professor at the National Art University in Taipei upon retirement. She has also taught business English in a private college to train students working in international trade. She published her lecture notes as a textbook and used it in these classes. After retiring from teaching, KehChien travelled the world, covering the countries of France, Italy, Monaco, England, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Russia, New Zealand, Canada, Mexico, Jamaica, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, and China. She split her retirement life between Taiwan and US. During 2001 and 2006, she published five short story collections: Frist trip in Europe (in Chinese, 2001), Life to Remember in Detroit (in Chinese, 2002), My Heart is in the Highland (in Chinese, 2004), Over the Baltic Sea (in English, 2006), and The Twelve Stories of Chinese Women (in English, 2006). In 2021, she wrote a short biography, Can the past be fading like Smoke for her grandchildren. She loved playing Chinese Checkers and reading online news to keep her mind sharp.
KehChien was preceded in death by her husband Kou Chuan, daughters Yu Hua, Yu Whuei, granddaughter Chen Hsin Liu, her parents, her brothers Zehou Li, Dunhou Li, and her twin sister Keqin Lee.
KehChien is survived by her children Yu Hen and Lih-Chyong, Yu Shuan, Yu Chih and Thomas Eudeikis, her grandhildren Jyun-kai and Christina, Jyun-yi, and Jyun-lih, uncle Tienpei and Sibei Lee, cousin Charlotte, Sherry, aunt Qiubi, Ruihua, Tailing, niece Xinyang Li and Xiandu Zeng, nephew Xinfeng Li and Ruoshu Wu.
A memorial service will be held on March 11, 2023, 10:00 AM to noon, at the Whitehurst Sullivan Burns & Blair Funeral Home. A private reception will be held afterwards at a different venue.
In lieu of flowers or sympathy gifts, the family would appreciate memorial notes, proses, stories or pictures. The materials will be compiled into a memorial album to be shared with friends and family. Please leave your memorial notes in the obituary website (below).
