Judy Hurst was born Judith Mary Long on May 23,1946 in Modesto California to Elmo and Fran Long. She was the eldest of eight siblings. She briefly lived in Oklahoma and Southern California but spent most of her growing years in Fresno. She graduated from Roosevelt High School and attended both Fresno City and Fresno State Colleges earning a teacher’s credential. She worked with hundreds of children in the Clovis Unified and Fresno Unified School Districts.
She raised four beautiful daughters, Linda Hays, Laura Stidham, Donna Larson and Nancy Tejirian. She was gymnastics, dance and cheer mom extraordinaire, tirelessly transporting and participating in her daughter’s activities. She was Grammy to seven celebrated and wonderful grandchildren, Matt, Maddie, Becca and Caden Stidham, Hunter and Ethan Spikes and Aaron Larson.
Judy made many friends from the time she was in high school, several of them friends to this day. She was lucky to meet Layne Hurst in her later years. She and Layne were married for eight years and they enjoyed traveling across the country by motor home. It was a sad day when we lost Layne to cancer.
Luck smiled on her again when she met Glenn Vinson, truly a soul mate. She and Glenn were a pair to reckon with. Good luck trying to visit them: they joined the Miata Car Club and were on the road as much as possible taking day trips, driving across the country and joining rallies with their car club friends. If they weren’t traveling, they were dancing, sometimes following their favorite band for one more dance.
Glenn was by Judy’s side at the time of her diagnosis of lung cancer and they have seldom been parted. He was kind, considerate and compassionate and his love for Judy was obvious to all who have visited her. He opened their home and his heart to family and friends, and everyone has been welcomed to spend time with her.
She will be dearly missed by her siblings, her daughters and grandchildren, her friends and the love of her life, Glenn. We are grateful and proud to have had such a loving person in our lives and wish her peace.
