Joe was born in Brooklyn New York to Mary and Frank Bertolino on January 4, 1923. Joe entered the Army and was eventually assigned to the Army Air Corps Band stationed at Camp Pinedale in Fresno, California. He has many stories and he enjoyed playing his saxophone in the USO shows.
It was at one of those shows that he met Marie, the love of his life. After the war, Joe moved to Fresno and married Marie and started his family.
Joe worked briefly with the Fresno post office before becoming a Tax Appraiser for Fresno County Assessor’s Office for 33 years.
Joe was an active member of his church and the Fresno Elks lodge where he proudly served a time as an officer. Joe and Marie especially enjoyed the trips and BBQs with his friends at the Elks lodge.
Joe is survived by his children, son David and his wife LuAnn, daughter MaryJo Gregg and her husband Scott. Joe enjoyed his children and always had time for their special projects.
“Dad, we love you and we miss you so much.”
The family would like to thank all the individuals, nurses and physicians who provided care for Joe at Saint Agnes Hospital. We especially thank Dr. Gulesserian, all of the caregivers; Lois, Ashley, Kim, Leticia, Lori, Lusero, Kandace and Julie at Focus Health for their dedicated care of Joe in his home.
A Graveside service will be held at St. Peter's Cemetery on Thursday, January 31, 2019 at 11:00 a.m.
