Janice was born October 3, 1963, to Gary & Judy Cox, as the first child and the first grandchild. She was given the title of princess by her grandmother, Ida Cox.
Janice was so much to so many. She was a daughter, a granddaughter, a big sister, a niece, a cousin, a sister-in-law, an aunt, a friend, a colleague, a volunteer, a cat lover & cat Momma, an animal compassionate, a Breyer horse enthusiast, an officer in a national organization, a web designer & host, and as mentioned, a Princess and a Legend.
She volunteered at the Fresno American Red Cross for many years, at PetCo, and at many other animal shelters & organizations. She was always willing to shelter a stray cat or kitten to keep it from being harmed. Sometimes (Maybe too often for some), that “shelter” became permanent. But that was just Janice’s huge heart at work. (These were her “children”) We have had the opportunity to come to know a few of her “children” well. You can tell they were well cared for and loved deeply.
Janice worked as an accountant for the Catholic Diocese in Fresno and was well respected for her work ethic, and her Faith.
As we have gotten to know more of Janice’s life after her death, we realize what a remarkable life she led. Not many of us in her family saw the fullness of her life, as she was generally a very private person. When it came to her Breyer horse “Hobby”, it became evident to us that it really could not be called a Hobby, as it was much, much, more to Janice. She excelled in it to an extremely high standard of excellence and service to others. Her friends, her fellow Breyer enthusiasts, described her as an expert and that is also where the term “Legend” came from. The identifyyourbreyer website she created and continually maintained and improved is a testament to the magnitude of her accomplishments in the field - just for the love of it!
Janice will be missed and loved eternally by her family, her friends and the Breyer associates that admired her devotion to others.
She is predeceased by her mother Judith Hill Melella, and youngest brother Jerry Cox
Janice leaves behind father Gary Cox and his wife Shelley, brother, Patrick Cox and his wife Jodi, stepsister Sarah Oliveira and her husband Jamie, nephews Ryan, Adam, and Eric Cox, nieces Emmie, Livie, and Sadie Oliveira, aunts Jeanne Dalton and Lynn Cochron, uncle Jim Hill, and many cousins and many friends.
A Funeral Service will be held at Whitehurst, Sullivan, Burns & Blair Funeral Blair Funeral Home
