James Douglas Hyberg was born in San Mateo, California, on March 20th, 1942 and happily joined his father William G. Hyberg, mother Kathryn M. Hyberg as well as siblings Donald W. Hyberg and Karen A. Hyberg (Graham). Over the years more siblings arrived: Janet Hyberg (Young), Elinor Hyberg (Fallis), Barbara Hyberg (Knadler), Carolyn Hyberg (Auld) and in June of 1958 Robert Hyberg was designated no. 8 with no more to follow.
After WWII the family relocated to Fresno, California. Jim enjoyed school where he attended T.L. Heaton Elementary School, Hamilton Jr. High School, and Fresno High School, followed by 4 years at Fresno State College where he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Radio and TV Production. He loved it and upon graduation found what he thought was the perfect job at KFRE Television Station with a well-known local celebrity, Al Radka. He enjoyed those years, but due to the Vietnam War and the draft, Jim found himself commissioned in the US Navy Reserve where he became a Lieutenant and was trained as a jet attack pilot. He flew on his first tour of duty off the aircraft carrier the USS America, and his 2nd tour he was assigned to the USS Constellation. Among his awards and commendations, he received the Distinguished Flying Cross for ‘heroism and extraordinary achievement’ in helping save a fellow flier. When the war ended Jim’s life changed and he joined the Houston Casualty Insurance Company and worked until his retirement as a Sr. Vice President. Throughout his life, Jim continued to bring smiles and laughter and shared them with others.
On December 8th, 2023 at the age of 81, Jim took his final breath and is now at peace.
