Gary, passed away Thursday, April 29, 2010, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on April 18, 1935, in Merced. He graduated from Chowchilla High School, attended San Francisco State where he ran cross country and Oregon State where he played basketball. He spent many summers in Yosemite as part of the trail crew which led to his love of the great outdoors. During this time he was also known for his trumpet and had his own dance band. After college he joined the United States Army and served for several years before he met the love of his life Darlene and married in 1961. He had a successful 31 year career as a District Sales Manager with Photo & Sound Company until he semi-retired. He then spent a number of years with Val Com until he officially retired. Throughout his life Gary was involved in many organizations including De Molay, 20-30 Club, Fresno Elks Lodge, Fresno State Time Out and Dug Out Club and Miss Softball America where he made many life long friends. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and the Mariposa Museum & History Center. Gary was the 5th generation owner of the Historic Quick Ben Hur Ranch in Mariposa and recently was presented with the 150 Year Agricultural Heritage Club Award at the California State Fair. Gary was an avid hunter, he loved life and cherished his family. His positive approach to every situation, his humorous one liners and words of encouragement were an inspiration to us all.
Gary is survived by his loving wife Darlene of 48 years; daughter, Darla Rasmussen and her husband Keith; son, Eric Quick and his wife Mia. His three grandchildren, Grant Rasmussen, Ashley Quick and Gavin Quick will carry the wonderful memories and his loving devotion to them throughout their lives. He is also survived by two caring step-grandchildren, Garrett and Shelle Rosenthal.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Nancy Hinds Hospice for their care and compassion.
A Memorial Service will be held at Lisle Funeral Home, 1605 L Street, Fresno, on Friday, May 7, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow at the Quick's home.
