Frances Garcia Martinez

Frances Garcia Martinez, 91, passed peacefully on Sunday, December 27, 2020 in Selma, CA. She is survived by her beloved daughters, Helen Cabrera (wife of Juan Cabrera), Frances Mata (wife of the late Joe Mata), beloved sons, Thomas and James Martinez, and beloved son-in-law, Mike Aguilar (husband of the late Terry Aguilar), and many beloved grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Candelario “Larry” Martinez, her beloved daughter, Terry Ann Aguilar, and her beloved granddaughter, Victoria Nicole Huerta.

Frances was born to Jose and Guadalupe Garcia in Las Cruces, New Mexico on July 11, 1929. She moved to Fresno, California when she was young. She attended Roosevelt High School and then met and married the love of her life, Candelario “Larry” Martinez. They began their family and started Martinez Farms which continued for decades with the help of their family and friends. The family worked hard together and when the work was done, they enjoyed relaxing family vacations to Morro Bay, Santa Cruz and the California Amusement Parks. Frances’ children continue the love of travel and do the same with their children and grandchildren.

Frances’ lasting legacy is in the love of her family. She treasured each and every one of them. She was a woman of great faith, and if she knew you, she was praying for you. She will be deeply missed and cherished always. She has passed her love and knowledge down from generation to generation and with this we say “Rest in Peace, your work is done and you are welcomed into Heaven by our Lord and those that have gone before you.”

A visitation for Frances will be held Sunday, January 10, 2021 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Stephens and Bean Funeral Chapel, 202 North Teilman, Fresno, CA 93706. Due to current COVID-19 restrictions, the visitation will be capacity controlled.

A rosary service will occur Sunday, January 10, 2021 from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM, 202 North Teilman, Fresno, CA 93706. Due to current COVID-19 restrictions, the rosary will be capacity controlled.

A funeral service will occur Monday, January 11, 2021 at 10:00 AM at St. Jude Catholic Church, 208 W. Jefferson Ave., Fresno, CA 93706. Due to current COVID-19 restrictions, the service will be capacity controlled.
