My Mom left this world on November 03, 2022 at the age of 91. Her loving, compassionate heart left a beacon of hope and light for everyone who ever knew her. Mom was born on January 15, 1931 in EI Dorado, Kansas. She grew up in Chowchilla, California and attended Chowchilla Union High School, where she met the love of her life, Duane Deeter. Mom and Dad were married on April 06, 1951 in Chowchilla and we traveled to the Azores in 1954, during Dad's military service, where I spent the beginning of my little girl years. Family lore has it that my first language was Portuguese.
Before Mom married Dad, she attended college in San Jose, California. After we returned from the Azores, Mom worked as a secretary at schools in Chowchilla and then for PG&E in the Chowchilla, Madera and Merced offices until she retired. Following retirement, Mom volunteered at Peoples Church and Saint Agnes Hospital. Mom loved to travel and experience new places in the world and did so often throughout her life.
Family and family traditions were of the utmost importance to her, as evidenced during holiday dinners, gatherings and vacations. Especially our Christmas week vacations in Carmel or Pajaro Dunes, California.
Mom and Dad were avid readers and shared their love of books with me and my brother, their family friends and their three granddaughters. During the last three and a half years of her life, she made a special effort to share her love of reading with her Great Grandson, Noah Duane Larson. Noah loved it when his "GG" read to him. Mom every so often gave her family "Talking To's" and shared what she called "Pearls of Wisdom", when she felt it was needed.
My Mom was so much stronger than we ever gave her credit for and proved her strength the last five weeks of her life as she prepared herself and us to leave our world peacefully. Mom was our rock. She walked her path with dignity and grace, knowing full well the example she was setting and leaving for us. We will forever love her and miss her, until we can again sit with her at the family table.
She is survived by her brother Delbert Abercrombie and wife Susan, me and my husband John, her son Brian Deeter and wife Gwen, Granddaughter Emily Fletcher and husband Michael, Granddaughter Hannah Ramirez and husband Jorge, Granddaughter Amy Larson and husband Robert and her Great Grandson Noah Duane Larson. There will be a private ceremonial release of Mom's, Dad's and their little dog Stormy's ashes in Monterey Bay, off the shores of Pajaro Dunes, this coming spring. In lieu of flowers or gifts of condolence, Mom requested that donations be made, in her memory, to the California Armenian Home at 6720 E. Kings Canyon Road, Fresno, California 93727.
I will love you forever Mom.
Beth Salenik.
