He attended Fresno Schools and enlisted in the United States Army in September of 1943. He serviced in both the European Theater and in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He retired from the United States Air Force in October of 1948, and joined the Pacific Telephone Company in December of 1948. He retired as a service center manager with 35 years of service. He was a past Council and Chapter President of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
Ed loved to travel and has friends all over the world, including Hong Kong, Shanghai, Vancouver B.C., The Netherlands, England, Switzerland, and Italy. He has been to Europe 12 times, and Hong Kong and China more than 30 times.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 25 years, Rose Capriola Burney.
Ed is survived by his wife, Christine Davila Burney; and his two sons, Edwin Burney, Jr. and his wife Marlene of Clovis, CA, and Brian Burney and his wife Angela of San Pedro, CA; grandson, Russell Burney; Ed's adopted daughter, Diana Moore of Fresno, CA; and sisters, Dorothy Lander of Sacramento, CA, and Ellen Erath of Cherokee, Village, AR.
A Memorial Service will be held at Whitehurst, Sullivan, Burns & Blair Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 13, 2017, at 10:00 a.m.
