Edna Virginia Klamm Metzler went to heaven on December 6, 2011. Born in Fresno in March 1916 as the daughter of Mary and John H. Klamm, they were part of the Germans from Russia community. After graduating from Sanger High School, she worked for Bank of America before marrying her husband of 55 years, Henry P. Metzler, a third generation family farmer and founder of H. P. Metzler and Sons of Del Rey. She resided in their Sanger farm home and property for 65 years, her entire married life.Edna's pride and joy were her two sons, Ron and Dennis Metzler, their wives Barbara and Diadre, and her eight grandchildren--all who survive and celebrate Edna's life. While working in the family farming operation, she took time for active involvement in Sanger's Salem Church, Tabitha Society, PTA, Fresno County Women's Farm Bureau, headed the home economics department of the Fresno District Fair, and DeMolay Mothers. She was a founding member of Twilight Haven and president of the Guild. Edna and Henry Metzler were honored as Sanger's Mr. & Mrs. Farmer in 1976, and were active members of the Fresno State Bulldog Foundation and avid supporters of California State University, Fresno.
Edna's husband passed away in 1991. She is survived by her children: Ron and Diadre, and Denny and Barbara; her grandchildren, Ron's Eric and Michael DeNunzio, Ryan and Erika, Tracy Sims and Dave, Michael and Patrice; Denny's Erin Novak and Jonathan, David and Hallie, Kersten Barr and Erin, Douglas and Christine. She cherished her 10 great-grandchildren. As the eldest child of seven children, her surviving sisters are sisters, Evelyn Helmuth and Al, Marian Deis and Eddie, Eleanor Roberson, Darlene Casey and Frank.Edna left a legacy of love, and her life was a testament to her love of family, her example of hard work, and her belief in the Lord. Her unspoken motto was "Perfect will be just fine!" She has gone on to be in peace with the angels.Memorial activities will begin at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 10, 2011 at the Lisle Funeral Home, 1605 L Street, in Fresno, followed by graveside services at Belmont Memorial Park, and a reception celebration at Pardini's thereafter.
