Edith Faye Johnson

After a courageous, years-long battle with pulmonary fibrosis, Edith Faye Johnson passed away on May 2, 2023, at the age of 82. She passed quietly and peacefully in her home, with both of her daughters by her side.

Many knew Faye as a proud Christian woman who stood firmly and passionately in her faith. She spent every Sunday with her brothers and sisters in Christ at Victory Baptist Church in Fresno, California. Even when her illness made it impossible to leave home, she still attended every service virtually.

Faye worked hard throughout her life from a young age. For many years, she worked as a legal secretary for California Correctional Peace Officers Association (CCPOA). She also volunteered with the Fresno Juvenile Hall and Trauma Intervention Program (TIP). With her passion for supporting troubled youths, Faye later founded Turn On To Teens (TOTT), an organization that helped incarcerated juveniles hone their computer and writing skills, while sharing their stories with other teens and adults across the country. She retired happily at the age of 69.

Faye enjoyed many hobbies that kept her busy during retirement. For decades, Faye created beautiful, handmade ceramic sculptures, and organized annual craft fairs at her home. Later in life, she spent her downtime studying the genealogy of her family, tracing her roots back through Florida and Alabama, where she was born and raised respectively.

Of all the things in which she took pride and enjoyed the most, however, Faye loved spending time with her family. No holiday gathering was complete without a competitive round of Phase 10 (or Faye’s 10, as it fondly became known).

Faye is survived by her daughters, Donna and Carole; her granddaughters, Brittany, Christina, Patricia, Samantha, and Alexandria; and her great-grandchildren, Paul, Ember, Cora, Jackson, and Nova.

A visitation for Edith will be held Wednesday, May 10, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Stephens and Bean Funeral Chapel, 202 North Teilman, Fresno, CA 93706. A memorial service will occur Thursday, May 11, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Victory Baptist Church, 1717 N. Gateway Blvd., #105, Fresno, CA 93727.
