August 19, 1947 – June 26, 2020
Mike was born to Sumner Peck and Carolyn Giffen Peck on August 18th, 1947. He was the oldest of eight kids. He loved his siblings, cousins and friends immensely and could make them laugh without even trying. After going to college at Cal Berkely, he came home to Fresno, CA where he farmed for the rest of his life. Mike was an excellent athlete. When he was younger he enjoyed surfing. He also loved skiing and had perfect form. His golf swing was beautiful and everything he did, he did with style. He was a free spirit and loved traveling with his family. Santa Cruz, CA was one of his favorite places on earth, and he would love to take day trips to San Francisco to shop. He had great taste in clothes. Later in life, Mike fell in love with his faith and this brought him great joy. The most unique quality of Mikes was his generous heart. If anyone, friend, family, or stranger was down on their luck and needed a place to stay, Mike was always willing to share his home – no problem. He was truly the most compassionate, loving and giving person you would ever meet. Monsignor Cleary nicknamed Mike “sweet vale avoca” meaning “still waters run deep” and that described Mike perfectly. He was extremely thoughtful and cared deeply not only for friends and family, but strangers as well. That kind of true love is rare and will be forever missed. Mike is preceded in death by his grandparents, Ruth and Russel Giffen; parents, Sumner and Carolyn Peck; his brothers, Pat and Duffy Peck; and nephews Johnny Hopkins and Cory Peck. Mike leaves behind sister, Kit Hopkins and her husband, Bill; His brother Kelly Peck and his wife Anne; brother, Murphy Peck; sister, Amy Lazarus, and her husband, Ken; sister Katie Manock, and her husband Charlie and many nieces and nephews.
