He was born October 12, 1926 in Republic, Ohio the son of Charles and Ida (Gerstenberger) Kohlenberg. He was a 1945 graduate of Green Springs High School. On August 19, 1951 he married Ruth Eileen Lewis at Trinity United Church of Christ in Tiffin. She preceded him in death on August 23, 2005. Walter was employed as a N.O.B.A. technician and was owner of the Mar-Vo Mineral Co., retiring in 1995, after serving Dairy farmers throughout Ohio and Michigan for 33 years. Mr. Kohlenberg was a United States Army Veteran, a member of United Church of Christ where he held positions of Property Chairman, church Elder, Deacon and Board Chairman, a member of the American Legion, Latecomers Farm Bureau Council and a founding member of Ballville Fire Department.
Surviving are his children: Debra (Rush) Fielding of Oregon, OH, Kim (Penny) Kohlenberg of Fremont, OH, Lori (Louis) Miller of Kansas, OH; grandchildren: Ryan (Susan) Fielding, Dayton, KY, Robin (Colin) Thalgott, Columbus, OH, Kara Kohlenberg, Chicago, IL, Kent Kohlenberg, Phoenix, AZ, Connor Kohlenberg, Fremont, OH, Katie (Jake) Bryant, Risingsun, OH, and Emily Miller, Kansas, OH; great-grandchildren: Rocco and Ruby Fielding, Reid Thalgott and Trevor Bryant; special friend, Pat Charles of Fremont, OH.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Ruth, siblings, Louis, Ray, Melvin and Clifford Kohlenberg, Mildred Wise and Iva Grace Barber.
Visitation will take place on Saturday, June 15, 2013 from 10:00A.M.-2:00P.M. at First United Church of Christ, 1500 Tiffin Road, Fremont, OH. Funeral Services will follow visitation with Pastor Elaine Bast and Nancy Smith officiating.
