Daryl E. Wagner, 88, of Fremont, passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at Rutherford House. He was born the son of Rolla Gilbert and Grace Leona (Larick) Wagner on June 3, 1930 in Lovell, Ohio. He graduated from Green Springs High School in 1949. Daryl bravely served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean Conflict, where he was stationed in France. He was married to Martha Wagner for 31 years, and she preceded him in death on February 27, 2013. Daryl was the owner of D.E. Wagner Excavating in Fremont from 1974 to 1979. He also worked as a water plant operator at Green Springs Water Works, and later retired from Logan Water Works. Daryl had a love for sports, especially football, enjoyed dining out with his family, going for long car rides, and square dancing. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family.
Left to cherish his memory are his son; Daryl E. Wagner, Jr., of Fremont, step-daughters; Karen Vargo of Fremont, Sandra (Bill) Inman of Logan, Ohio, step-son; Michael Vargo, of Fremont, sister; Phyllis “Sue” (Bill) Schrader of Willard, Ohio, ex-wife; Evelyn Wagner, and numerous grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife; Martha Wagner, brother; Bob Wagner, sister; Patricia Hammer, and step-son; Steve Vargo.
Visitation will be held Friday, June 15, 2018 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm with a memorial service beginning at 4:00pm at Keller-Koch-Chudzinski Funeral Home, 416 S. Arch Street, Fremont, Ohio, 43420. Certified Celebrant Susann Robitski Zimmerman will be officiating. Military honors provided by the VFW and American Legion will follow the service at the funeral home.
Burial will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
