Born on Sept 10, 1923 in Manila to Benigno & Laura Mariano, Rosie was the second oldest of 10 siblings. In 1941, she married Francisco Ocampo, an educator, and raised 6 children (Baby, Sonny, Beth, +Lot, Evan & Bobby) in Heroes Hills, Quezon City. Widowed at age 46, she migrated to the US in 1972 with the younger children to join Baby & Sonny in California-focusing on their college education.
As her children raised families of their own, she endorsed Family Unity by gathering everyone for dinner weekly to exchange pleasantries & savour homemade meals. Rosie maintained her own residence in the Bay Area for 30 yrs (San Jose & Milpitas), and most recently moved to El Dorado Hills, CA to be of close proximity to the grandchildren. As an inspiring homemaker, she loved to cook, sew and decorate her house. Her adventurous spirit has taken her to destinations in Europe & Asia, on board the Alaskan, Carribean & Mexico cruises, many summers in Hawaii, NY, Geneva & Montreal. Rosie is an avid reader and collects her thoughts by writing letters to family & friends. A special treat for her is a Broadway musical capped with fine dining. Always in her Sunday's best…her flair for fashion & accessories is alluring. Steadfast in her faith & in the power of prayers, she was active in the church community of St John the Baptist for 15 yrs. Love and Respect for one another are principles she advocated and lived by.
With the onset of Alzheimers 5 yrs ago, she suffered a stroke in Nov. 2011 which diminished her abilities yet was still able to recognize family members. Her response depicted in a smile , raising of eyebrows, a hand squeeze, eyes tracking movement, brought sheer happiness to us. She was a strong woman- resilient as she hurdled every health setback. Moreover, Rosie was a Woman of Strength wearing the Grace of God as she passed on to eternal life on Saturday, May 25, 2013.
She is survived by 2 siblings- Ping & Carmen, 5 children, 16 grandchildren & 12 great grandkids. She lived a remarkable life of 89 years and leaves behind a stellar legacy many hope to emulate…..Farewell our beautiful Mama,Grandma, Ate, Tita, Auntie Rosie We Love and will Miss You so much.
