Marconislamarr Hunter, affectionately known as “Connie” by family and friends of Ladysmith Rd, entered peacefully into rest at age 81 on June 17, 2024. Marconis was preceded in death by her parents Author Mathis and Veleria Mathis-Wright. She was born and raised in Washington DC. As a little girl she attended Payne Elementary School, and Dunbar High School, which was an elite public school where she later graduated from. Marconis went on to attend Armstrong Technical School where she studied data processing, which prepared her for a career in business administration. She was a dedicated employee of Capital Hill Hospital located in Washington D.C. for many years. She later moved to Woodford, Virginia where she continued her career and later retired from Louis Terrell Land Surveyor as front desk receptionist.
Marconis was a believer in Christ Jesus as her Lord and Savior. She loved reciting her Catholic Preamble of Faith which brought her great joy in doing so. She enjoyed the good ole times when she and her mother, known to everyone as “Grannie” would go yard selling, thrift store shopping, out to eat, and spending quality time together as mother and daughter. They would return home after a long day out to sit in the backyard relaxing and talking. She enjoyed taking bus trips to different Casinos with her husband and mother. She and her husband Hunter would often retrieve to their summer vacation home at the Wilderness Presidential Resort located in Spotsylvania Virginia, they did this for many years. They would often gather the grand kids up and off they went for an exciting weekend getaway of camping, swimming, riding bikes and cooking out on the grill.
Marconis would often have family cookouts, Christmas gatherings, and awesome birthday parties with all the family gathered around. She lived a quiet and peaceful life alongside her husband.
Marconis was a wonderful mother who raised two amazing daughters. She was courageous, kind, loving, hardworking, and always made sure her daughters had what they needed growing up. Her faithfulness as a mother and wife was impeccable. Marconis memory will live on forever in our hearts, and her legacy of love will continue throughout the family.
Marconis is survived by her husband, Horace Hunter; daughters, Valerie Brown, son-in-law, Burton Brown Jr; daughter, Nicole Mathis; grandchildren, Rozena Brown, Burton Brown III, Travis Brown, Kamau Abdulla, Zatiti Al-Amin, Mujahideen Sistare, preceded in death (Anisa Sistare, Shakira Sistare); great grandchildren, Shakira Anderson, Nevaeh Brown, Brielle Brown, Khalid Brown, preceded in death (Tyra Brown), Xoe Al-Amin, and Zyair Al- Amin; 3 great-great grandchildren; sister, preceded in death (Valena Arevelo, brother-in-law; preceded in death (Juan Arevelo); brother, preceded in death (Manuel Mathis); brother, preceded in death ( Quinton Mathis); brother, Debroski Mathis; sister-in-law; Chanie D. Mathis, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Going Home Services will be held on Saturday June 29, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, 1621 Emancipation Hwy, Fredericksburg, Virginia 22401, followed by dinner at Golden Corral Buffet 12:30 PM, 10320 Spotsylvania Ave, Fredericksburg, VA 22408
