He grew up in Waynesboro, VA and graduated from the University of Virginia with a B.S. in Commerce and from the University of Virginia Law School. Upon graduation, he practiced law in Fredericksburg for over 50 years.
He was a Director for The National Bank of Fredericksburg, President and Director of the Fredericksburg Rotary Club, Deacon of the Presbyterian Church, Vice President and Director of the Fredericksburg Country Club, President of the Fredericksburg Bar Association, Director of Opportunities unlimited, Life Member of the University of Virginia Alumni Association and Regional Chairman of the University of Virginia Law School Annual Giving Program.
He was devoted to his family, his friends and his profession. He was an ardent golfer having won the club championship and President’s Cup at the Fredericksburg Country Club and scored eleven holes-in-one.
He is survived by his wife, Sheila E. Baker; two sons, William T. Baker (Ellen) and Thomas W. Baker; his grandsons, Taylor M. Baker (Pari), Thomas W. Baker, Jr., and Nicholas B. Baker; one granddaughter, Leland Baker Atkinson and one great-granddaughter, Pippa.
A memorial service will be held at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Service, 1621 Emancipation Highway, Fredericksburg, VA on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at 3:00 PM. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time.
