We mourn the loss of a remarkable woman who brought immense joy and love to all who knew her. Joyce Garnett Melton (Juice), a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and aunt, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2023, in Woodbridge, VA.
Born in Fredericksburg, Joyce retired from the U.S. Government after 40 faithful years. She devoted all her time to her family and shared countless precious moments with her husband Porter Melton, daughter Tara Lambros (Arthur), and her adored grandchildren, Michael, and Juliana. They were the true lights of her life, and she made sure everyone knew just how special they were to her. She also enjoyed reality TV, decorating, cooking Thanksgiving dishes, and all things Christmas.
Joyce is survived by her loving family, including step-son Justin Melton (Denise), step-grandchildren Payton and Sara Melton, step-daughter Kelley Fouts (Mich), and step-granddaughters Hailley and Faith Fouts. She is also mourned by her mother Vernell Garnett, and her nephews Dale Ocheltree (Melissa) and Chad Garnett. Joyce is preceded in death by her father William R. Garnett Sr., sister Janice Ocheltree, and brother William R. Garnett Jr.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 19, at 11 a.m., at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Service in Fredericksburg. Prior to the service, the family will receive friends starting at 10 a.m. Joyce will be laid to rest at Quantico National Cemetery.
