 Obituario de James William Hagerty
James William Hagerty, age 82, of Fredericksburg, Virginia passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2024. He was born on January 10, 1942, in Pittsburgh, PA, the eldest son of the late James Hagerty and Elizabeth Hagerty (Riddle). He served in the Army, first stationed in San Antonio, TX, where he met and married the love of his life, Irene. His young family was deployed to Germany, and he was able to travel throughout Europe. He settled in Virginia in the late 1960s and had a successful career in the Federal Government until his retirement in 2000. God and family were his highest priorities, and he was an adoring husband and exceptional father and grandfather. He was a man of integrity and could be depended upon for any occasion: service to his country, volunteering at Church and for charitable organizations, sports coach, activities chauffeur, sports participation, bowling league, and scout leader; he gave of his time willingly and eagerly. Jim loved to travel, especially to the beaches of North Carolina. He documented every event through his love of photography which he shared with his father. Every winter since the 1980s, he vacationed at Massanutten in the Shenandoah mountains, joined by countless family and friends. He enjoyed eating a good meal and sweet dessert. He had a love of music, listening to oldies, whistling, singing at home, in the car, church choir, and playing the organ. Irene and Jim loved to cut a rug at every event, or just in the kitchen at home. Jim combined his love of God, family, and music and created a family tradition at Christmas to celebrate Christ over commercialization, which has continued for decades and will be his legacy. He is preceded in death by his wife, Irene Hagerty; parents, James Hagerty and Elizabeth Hagerty (Riddle); brother, Patrick Hagerty; grandchildren, Rochelle Helmick and Aaron Durrett; great grandchild, Ramsey Durrett; and children in law, Walid Kamel and Barbara Hagerty (Horton). He is survived by his children: Deborah Dameron, Elizabeth Durrett (David Durrett), James Hagerty II, Patricia Greene (Shawn Greene), Josephine Kamel, Frank Hagerty (Elizabeth Hagerty), Thomas Hagerty (Sara Hagerty), and Loreen Hughes (Joe Hughes); 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren ; and one great great grandchild on the way; siblings, Jean Novak, Maureen Harding, Michael Hagerty, Kathleen Secilia, and Terrence Hagerty. Mass held at St Mary’s, Thursday, June 6th at 2pm, followed by Visitation at Mullins and Thompson from 6pm to 8pm. Burial will be at Quantico National Cemetery, Friday, June 7th, 10:30am.
