Donna Marie Grinnell

Donna Marie Grinnell, age 68, of Fredericksburg, VA passed away peacefully Friday, July 12, 2024 at Mary Washington Hospital. She was born on March 7, 1956 in Rochester, NY the daughter of the late Donald A. and Barbara (Fritz) Brown. Donna was a nurse for many years at the PICU and Peds ED at INOVA Fairfax and most recently at PM Pediatrics Urgent Care. Her husband, Todd W. Grinnell, preceded her in death. Survivors include her two sons, Joshua T. Grinnell (Sarah) of Bluemont, VA and Cole L. Grinnell (Fiancé Sonia Scott) of Baltimore, MD; stepson, Shawn M. May (Kristi) of Horseheads, NY; two brothers, Daniel Brown of Delray, FL and Donald Brown (Carol Carlson) of Fairport, NY; two sisters, Diane D. Brown of Fredericksburg, VA and Denise Bumgarner (Mark) of Stafford, VA; six grandchildren, Charlotte, Henry, Noah, Nick, Brielle and Brooke; and many special nieces and nephews. Donna always wanted to be a nurse and accomplished that goal in 1977 at Arnot Ogden Nursing school. She began working at age 21 and continued until her diagnosis of cancer in April of this year. She has been described by many as a “force” – she was totally dedicated to her family, her patients and their families and her many beloved coworkers. She was the heartbeat of her family with many gatherings throughout the year with cookies, food and time spent together. Even in her last days she was caring for those around her. Donna will be missed and fondly remembered. A Celebration of Life will be held 10:00am on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, 1621 Emancipation Highway, Fredericksburg. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A reception will follow the service at the funeral home.
