Clarence Donald “ Don” Bare, 90, Passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Don was born March 9, 1923, to the late Clarence Samuel and Rosella (Hake) Bare in Mount Wolfe, Pennsylvania. He is predeceased by an older brother, Col. (Ret.) Harold F. Bare, York, Pennsylvania.
Don graduated from York Senior High School in 1941 and served in the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II from 1942-1945. He Married Jeane Marie Shilling on September 6, 1947. He and his wife graduated from Allegheny College in Meadville, Pennsylvania, in June 1948.
In 1951, Don began a long career in accounting working for the U.S. Government Accounting Office in Washington, D.C., Bonneville Power Administration, U.S. Department of Interior in Portland, Oregon (1956-1967), and U.S. Department of Interior, Washington, D.C., retiring in 1981. Don helped establish the Calvert Marine Museum in Solomons Island, Maryland. He was treasurer of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association, Fredericksburg Chapter 90, a long-standing member of the American Legion, Stafford Post 290, and a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Fredericksburg.
Don is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jeane and their five children: daughters, Gretchen Bretsch (Wayne), Saint Helena Island, South Carolina, Karen Salo (Eric), Herndon, Virginia, and Carol Nikov (Dragan), Jupiter, Florida; sons, Donald Bare (Kimberly), Mesa, Arizona, and Christopher Bare, Seoul, South Korea and Washington, D.C.; and five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Don’s life on Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at 2 p.m., at Trinity Episcopal Church, 825 College Ave. Fredericksburg. A burial service will be held at Middleham Chapel, 10210 H.G. Trueman Rd. Lusby, Calvert County, Maryland at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church.
