Cheryl was born to Steve M. Rudich and Barbara S. Rudich (Hess) on February 19, 1970 in Alexandria, Virginia. She graduated from North Stafford High School in 1988 and received an Elementary Education bachelor’s degree from Radford University in 1992. Later she attended George Mason University and received two master’s degrees in education with a specialty in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL).
Cheryl’s degrees in education led her to become a classroom teacher at Gunston Elementary in Lorton, Virginia where she taught several grades throughout her career. Towards the end of her career, she moved from the classroom to an ESOL teacher until her illness prevented her from continuing work. Cheryl was devoted and passionate about teaching; she provided the best education for her students, of whom she often shared fond stories and memories.
Cheryl married James “Jimmy” Henry Taylor IV in 1994. Cheryl and Jimmy started their life together in Stafford, and eventually moved to Fredericksburg where they began their family. Together they raised three sons who were heavily involved in sports, especially wrestling, which entailed many fun weekends spent at practices and games. Cheryl was preceded in death by her loving husband, James Henry Taylor IV; her son, Jacob O’Ryan Taylor, who passed away shortly after childbirth; and her father, Steve M. Rudich. Cheryl is survived by her three sons, James Henry Taylor V, Nathaniel Rudich Taylor, and Noah Patrick Taylor. Cheryl and Jimmy opened their home to care for another child, James Antonio Bradley, who they thought of as a son and who continues to be a loved member of the family.
Cheryl is survived by her mother, Barbara S. Rudich (Hess), who was an integral part of Cheryl’s life during her illness by providing constant love and support; her three brothers, Michael E. Rudich and wife Jennifer; William P. Rudich and wife Kristina; Stephen M. Rudich and partner Karen; four nieces; one nephew, and numerous friends.
Cheryl was a member of the Tabernacle United Methodist Church in Fredericksburg where she attended services with her family. Cheryl’s family will be receiving guests at 1 p.m. on Friday, February 7 at Tabernacle United Methodist Church at 7310-A Old Plank Road in Fredericksburg. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m.
