Carol spent more than 20 years serving her country as a Master Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps, including combat time overseas during the Gulf War and Operation Desert Storm. After retiring from the military, Carol took on the role of financial analyst with the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Counterterrorism Unit where she worked many more than years. She was recognized for her efforts on numerous high-profile cases, as well as for her round-the-clock work at Pentagon’s ground zero during the aftermath of 9/11. Her hobbies included kayaking, bird-watching, geo-caching, gardening, and spending time with her husband and family.
She is survived by her loving husband, Daniel; two sons, Andrew (Elizabeth) and Daniel (Michelle) Moran; sister, Jo; four grandchildren (Charles, Madison, Alexandra, Daniel); her dog, Sophie; and many extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Eleanor Courtney; her brother, Michael Courtney; and her sister Karen.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel from 1-3 pm. Inurnment will take place at a later date in Quantico National Cemetery.
