Ronald Walter Black

Ronald (Ron) Walter Black, age 90, of Springboro, passed away on December 5th, 2023 in Hospice care at Artis Senior Living. Ron was born May 14, 1933 in Franklin, OH to Claris and Frances Black. Ron enjoyed swimming, golfing, yard work, watching Ohio State football and being with his family.

Ron was a graduate of Springboro High School (SHS), class of 1951, where he lettered in varsity basketball and track in both his junior and senior years. In basketball, He was always proud that he was the starting center his senior year when Springboro won the Warren County Championship.

Upon graduation from SHS, Ron was accepted into the apprenticeship program at General Motors (GM) and began his long career with GM. He then enrolled at Miami University where he received his college degree in 1976 in Applied Science. Ron earned his degree by going to school at night while working full-time at GM. Ron’s career with General Motors spanned the greater part of 49 years and he retired for good in the year 2000.

Ron also served on the Village of Springboro city council for two years in 1958 and 1959. After his term expired, I can remember him saying; “I’ll never do that again!” (Smile)

Ron is preceded in death by his parents and brother Ted Black. Ron is survived by his wife of 70 years, Elsie Maie Black, his son Rick (Kristi) Black; grandchildren Ryan Black, Hayley Black, Bryan Goodson, Clarissa (Andre) Taylor; three great-grandchildren, Bryella, Cameron and Christian.

The family would like to express their gratitude to all the wonderful caregivers who helped provide support throughout Ron’s journey with Alzheimer's – Artis Senior Living, Queen City Hospice, Cincicares, Sarah Scott and THS Remote Support Services.

A visitation for Ronald will be held Tuesday, December 12, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Anderson Funeral Homes Springboro, 40 North Main Street, Springboro, OH 45066, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
