Cynthia A. Rose, age 89, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2024, at Fairmont Senior Living of Washington Township where she received loving care from the memory care staff. Prior to Fairmont, she resided at River Oaks in Miamisburg
Born in Conway, KY on September 9, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Oscar Hayes and Christine Hardix Hayes. She graduated from Mt. Vernon (KY) High School at age 16. She was the oldest girl of 11 children: late brothers James, Frank, Jack and Tommy Hayes, and late sister, Bessy Parsons. She is survived by brothers Robert and Steve Hayes, and sisters Eva Hubble, Sue Cole and Chrissy Collier.
Preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Ernie Rose, they lived in Franklin, OH and had a daughter, Debra Shaw (Victor) and a son, Gary Rose (Donna). “Mamaw” was devoted to her grandchildren Matthew Proffitt (Melia), Joshua Proffitt (Missy), Alan Rose (Maggie) and Chrissy Rose, and great grandchildren Alexa Proffitt and Jora Proffitt.
Victor’s children Meredith Shaw-Jones, Ashleigh Shaw, Erica Shaw, and Kevin Shaw also got to know and love Cindy over these past 24 years. She was “Grandma Cindy” to them.
Cindy enjoyed a very successful career in the retail grocery industry with the Kroger corporation and worked for nearly 40 years. She started as a cashier and became one of the first female store managers in company history in the early 1970’s. Highly respected by all, she was a trailblazer for women associates and an inspiration to many, successfully managing several stores throughout the Miami Valley during her tenure.
Cindy was a voracious reader who frequented the Franklin Public Library for years. We used to tease her for having “read all the books there”. In lieu of flowers, friends may consider making a tribute gift to the Franklin-Springboro Public Library, 44 East Fourth Street, Franklin, OH 45005 Attn: Martha Bush, Director.
Receiving of friends will be at Anderson Funeral Home, 40 N. Main St., Springboro, OH on Thursday, January 25th from 11:00 AM until 12:45 PM with the funeral service set for 1 PM. Interment will be at Springboro Cemetery.
