Robert Christie King

Bob was born in Dover, New Jersey, to Hiram and Thelma King and was a believer in Yeshua, the Messiah.

He is survived by his wife, Karen, and his sister, Mary Lee, four children and their spouses, Kimberley and Matt Kaminski, Nathan and Jennifer King, Jon and Megan King, Mike and Ashley King, and 17 grandchildren. He will be buried at Mount Olive Union Cemetery next to his infant son, Stephen Christopher.

Bob loved people. He gave of himself to enable people to express their talents, learn what is true, and build peace. Whether teaching mathematics, leading Bible studies, setting-up train layouts, helping students, hunting, cleaning buildings, carrying mail, gardening, delivering rent notices, tutoring, or instilling wonder in his grandchildren, Bob was always building relationships, connecting people.

After graduating from Houghton College in 1963, when he was teaching mathematics at Spring Valley Junior High School in New York, he met Karen. They married in 1968 and moved to Newtonville, Massachusetts, where Bob taught math at Lexington Christian Academy. The month Karen completed a MAT degree at Simmons College, their daughter, Kimberley was born, and so they moved back to New Jersey in the summer of 1970 to be near grandparents. Bob taught math for two more years, and then left teaching, for a decade, to join the staff of Campus Crusade for Christ. In 1975, Campus Crusade invited Bob and Karen to move to San Bernardino, California, to work at their Headquarters. They returned in 1981 to Pennsylvania to care for Karen’s father and then in 1984 accepted a position as Administrator at Conestoga Christian School. In 1991 Bob returned to New Jersey to care for his father and later, Karen’s mother.

Bob was initially diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2005, and by lifestyle change and prayer for a miracle, he was healed. He was cancer free from 2011 until 2018. Bob and Karen moved to Massachusetts to be near their family in 2017. In late November of 2018, Bob was once again diagnosed with a form of Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma - this time it was in the bone marrow and fast moving. God in His great mercy, granted Bob 14 added years with his family. He was here to see all of his grandchildren be born; to teach many of them, and to see all but the youngest come to understand the relationship God desires to have with us all.

A Memorial service for Robert will be held on Saturday June 1,2019 at 10 am at Grace Church on the Mount 1500 US - 46 Netcong NJ.
