Dorothy Whittemore Mailhiot, age 89, of Gardner, formerly of Framingham and Cape Cod,died peacefully on December 16, 2013 at Wachusett Manor in Gardner, MA. She was born on June 30, 1924 in Framingham, the daughter of the late Bertram L. and Hilda C. (Chaney) Whittemore. She was predeceased by her brother, Sheldon Chaney Whittemore, and by her late husband, Emile J. Mailhiot.
She is survived by her four children, Kathy M. Hastings and her husband Dana “Chip” of Rindge, NH, Gary S. Mailhiot and his wife Judith of Pearland, TX, Keith B. Mailhiot of Douglas, Sharon M. Murphy and her husband Joseph of Winchendon; nine grandchildren, Christopher Hastings of Boston, Lisa Hastings of San Francisco, CA, Lauren Mailhiot of Houston, TX, Nicole Mailhiot of Pearland, TX, Keith Burke of Marlborough, Alex and Jennifer Mailhiot of Douglas, Rachel Murphy of Newton and Greg Murphy of Winchendon; also two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Darien.
Dorothy grew up in Framingham and graduated from Framingham High School. She worked for Honeywell/Bull as Senior Executive Secretary for twenty years until her retirement. She was a resident of Framingham for most of her life and upon retiring moved to Cape Cod. Dottie enjoyed any kind of dancing and was a member of the Fairs ‘N Squares in Framingham and continued her square dancing on Cape Cod as well as joining the Happy Hoofers walking club. She was instrumental in starting a Newcomers Club when she moved to Mashpee and was also an avid bridge player, playing as often as she could. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She never lost her sense of humor and was always happy and smiling.
Calling hours will be Friday, December 20, from6:00 to 8:00 pm at Metrowest Funeral and Cremation Service of Wadsworth-Chiappini Funeral Home, 318 Union Ave., Framingham, MA. Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home Saturday, December 21, at 10:30 o’clock. Interment will be at Edgell Grove Cemetery in Framingham.
