On January 3, 2023, Catherine “Cathy” Louise Lewis passed away after an illness in Framingham, MA, her home for three decades. She was sixty-one. Born at Fort Meade, Maryland to Shirley M. Lewis and Charles B. Lewis, Jr., Cathy grew up in Albuquerque, Georgia and Maryland. Her family moved to Wilton, CT in 1975. As a youth, Cathy read constantly, and loved music, Star Trek, astronomy and NASA. She enjoyed her friends and studies at Wilton High School, graduating in 1979. Earning her Bachelors of Science and Master’s Degrees in Geology at UCONN, Cathy was vigorous in her scholarship and field work. She used punch cards to operate a computer in her early years at college before micro-computers became prevalent. As a geologist she at one time worked on environmental remediation in the Boston area.
Kind, inquisitive, sincere, and ever-ready to share a laugh, Cathy was a wonderful cook and baker. Her French onion soup was a favorite of her father’s. She loved doing hairpin lace, a type of crochet she learned from her grandmother. When she lived at Framingham Green, Cathy would sit outside with neighbors on warm evenings to work on the blankets and hats she made for family, friends and donated over the years. Cathy also had a talent for composing poems, especially celebrating Christian themes and her loved ones. She published two books of poetry, Seasons of Jesus (2008) and Why Won’t Anybody Come? (2009). In recent years, Cathy lived at Casa de Ramana Rehabilitation.
In addition to her parents, Cathy is survived by her three sisters, Susan Lewis, Christine Radu and Christine’s husband Dorel, as well as Sharon Grace and Cathy’s nephews and niece, Tim, James and Olivia Grace, in addition to numerous cousins from Canada and the United States.
Our dear Cathy’s Memorial Service will be held at the church where Cathy worshipped, First Baptist Church in Framingham, 1013 Worcester Road (park at 48 Pleasant Street Route 30) on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at 2:00pm. Burial for Cathy was held privately with family.
Donations in Cathy’s memory may be sent to the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 2415, Framingham, MA 01703.
