Leona Fay Macias (Hall) Leona (80 yrs), affectionately known as Leigh, escaped her captor, Alzheimer’s on September 29, 2024, passing with the sun on her face and a peaceful heart at home in Security-Widefield.
Leigh was born on March 18, 1944 in Pratt, Kansas to Leo and Opal Hall. The Universities of Kansas and Wichita State is where she earned a Bachelor in Education. The first teaching position was 3rd grade in Liberal, Kansas. The next accomplishment was a Masters in Counseling from the University of Kansas. Moving to Colorado and becoming a counselor at Adams City Junior High School, continuing to Brighton High School. Leigh met her husband, William and they married July 27, 1973. After moving to Security-Widefield, she taught at Fountain Fort Carson High School. Taking a cherished position as the counselor at Abrams Elementary where she prevailed for 28 yrs. Upon retiring, Leigh felt a calling to stay with the district. Wherein becoming a substitute teacher, enjoying the privilege of teaching her own grandchildren. In her spare time she enjoyed gardening, sewing, and cheering on the Denver Broncos. Leigh adored being surrounded by loved ones and the chaos everyone provided, to include her beloved chihuahua, Layla. Leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter and tons of unforgettable memories.
Leona is preceded in death by; parents - Leo and Opal, son - Jeremy, and brother - David Pete.
Leona is survived by her husband, William of 51 years, sister Patsy. Children; Jamie and Michael, Kim and Heather, Gina and Josh, daughter in law Jamie and Carlos. Grandchildren; Jena and Eugene, Alexis and Ethan, Gavin and Tiara, Kayanna, Eli and Summer, Destiny and Kevin, Donovan, Zoe and Jeff, Mark, Kelleigh and Emilio, Asher, Ava, Riley, Andreina. Great Grandchildren; Adrian, Kelton, Alaric, Amara, Draco, Kaine, Penelope, bonus grandchildren; Daemon, Junito, Izayah, Jesnyer Riess, Elias, Kai and the friends that became family around the beloved cul-de-sac.
Her laughter and love, wisdom and warmth will be deeply missed by all who love her.
Celebration of Leona’s life will begin with a viewing on October 10, 2024 at 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Dove-Witt Funeral Home located at 6630 S. US Highway 85/87, Fountain, Colorado 80817. Service will be held on October 11, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Dove-Witt Funeral Home located at 6630 S. US Highway 85/87, Fountain, Colorado 80817. A small reception will follow at the same location. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Alzheimer’s research or your local school district.
