Christina Anna Katz (Kobler) was born on February 13th, 1938 to Lorenz and Maria Kobler in Grafenwohr, Germany. She was blessed with 2 brothers, Tony and Lori. Christina grew up in the small town of Grafenwohr loving school and spending time outdoors. If she wasn't walking around town with her girlfriends, then she was riding her bicycle everywhere. She loved to go hiking, picking berries & mushrooms and admiring the beautiful wildflowers in the countryside. She had a wonderful childhood, although there were some rough times during WWII. Her family endured and remained close despite the war. Christina had a great outlook on life - always looking on the bright side!
Eventually she met the love of her life, a handsome soldier, Robert Katz. He was training at the Vilseck U.S. Army base just outside of her hometown. They fell in love and married on February 1, 1957. They had been happily married for 62 years until Bob's passing in January 2020. They raised 4 loving children; Robert, Alan, Mary and Steven. Bob was still in the Army so they had to move around a lot. Mom even travelled alone with her 4 children from South Dakota to Frankfurt, Germany where Bob was stationed so their family could be together. For Christina, family meant more than anything in this world! They settled in Colorado Springs when Bob retired from the Army.
Mom was always a hard worker. She worked hard in Germany and here, at different jobs and always excelled at each one. She was very talented - she even made many of her family's clothing as she was an expert seamstress. She started her own business, Katz tailor shop, at 3 locations in Colorado Springs; Fort Carson, Peterson Field and the Air Force Academy. The tailor shops were very successful and kept her busy, but never too busy for her family or for volunteering.
Christina volunteered for several associations over the years. While still in Germany, she was a member of the Military Wives Club. Here, she was a Cub Scout leader for her son, Steven. She was a Girl Scout leader for her daughter, Mary. She was very active in the Sertoma Club at Fort Carson for years and even held the position of president at one point. She enjoyed bowling and was the captain of her team. There were countless times that she volunteered to help with many other organizations that needed someone to help out. She couldn't say no! She was the most caring and giving person anyone could ever know. She and Bob have even welcomed strangers into their home to feed them and give them warm clothes. If anyone needed any type of help in any situation, she would help them if possible.
Mom just loved to go camping and fishing with her family. She was always thinking of her Grandchildren and tried to make it fun for them at camp. She would bring prizes and sweets and games that she loved to play with them. Her grandchildren adored her. She loved to fish even if she didn't catch anything. She was always cracking jokes and making everyone laugh out on the boat and back at camp! Oh, and when there was enough fish caught, she and Dad had the best fish fry with the yummiest hush puppies! Speaking of fishing, mom also would attend the Walleye Association fishing tournaments.
Our Mom treasured her husband and children and when she became a grandma (Oma), she was thrilled. When she became a Great and Great Great Grandma (Oma), she was even happier. She lived for her grandchildren. They were her whole life. She was still working in her eighties just to buy gifts for her grandkids! She was constantly worrying about them and wanting to make sure that they were being taken care of and had whatever they needed. She always put them before herself!
Something else about our Mom; When she came to the United States from Germany, she worked hard and studied, earned her Citizenship to the U.S. She also liked to knit, crochet, and making crafts. She did a lot of crafting with Mary and the Grandkids. She loved her plants - from her Bleeding Hearts outside in the yard to her favorite African Violets that she had all over in her house. She had a very green thumb! She was always starting new violets from the leaves of other violets and was very successful! They were her pride and joy - AFTER her grandkids of course!
Christina is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Katz, her parents, Lorenz and Maria Kobler, her brother, Tony Schonmann and her brother, Lori Kobler.
She is survived by her loving children; Robert and Barbara Katz (Son), Alan and HopeAnn Katz (Son), Mary Jordan and Dan Butler (Daughter) and Steven and Linda Katz (Son), 12 Grandchildren, 20 Great Grandchildren and 3 Great Great Grandchildren.
Our Mom, Grandma, Oma, will be missed so much by all who knew her, especially by her family. She loved and gave with all her heart everyday of her life. If you were lucky enough to have known her, you were blessed.
Mom, Love you Forever.
