Thomas was born September 14, 1927 to Thomas Walker and Martha Sanders Polk in Mason, Texas. Thomas attended Long Mountain schools and graduated from Mason High School. He served in the US Army. Thomas attended and played football at Texas Tech University. Later, he transferred to TCU where he played football and lettered in track and field, as did his older brother Garland. On January 31, 1949, Thomas married Patty Lucille Lloyd. After graduating from TCU with a degree in business, Thomas worked in West Texas and Fort Worth before pursuing a career with General Dynamics. Thomas retired from General Dynamics in 1990.Throughout his life Thomas was a follower of Jesus Christ. He believed the Bible and did his best to honor his Lord and Savior each day. As a result, Thomas’ faith was evident in his relationships and his gentleness towards others. He was a devoted husband and loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He and Patty were long time members of Southwest Christian Church in Fort Worth. Among his past time interests, Thomas was a loyal fan of Texas Rangers baseball, the Dallas Cowboys, and the athletic teams of the schools he attended—Mason High School Punchers, Texas Tech Red Raiders, and TCU Horned Frogs.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents; four siblings, Vivian, Walker, Pauline, and Garland Polk; and son, Michael Dale Polk. Thomas is survived by his wife Patty; daughters, Cheryl Turner and husband John of Mesquite, and Susan Sawyer and husband Chris of Fort Worth; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
