Stephen was born on May 18, 1954 in Fort Worth, Texas to his parents, Booker T. Moten Jr. and Rena Mae Baldwin. He accepted Jesus Christ early in life at Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church.
He grew up in Fort Worth, TX and attended Sunrise Elementary School and Paul Laurence Dunbar Junior and Senior High Schools. While attending Dunbar High School he lettered in basketball and football; graduated with the Class of 1972 as a Mighty Wildcat. Stop Six nation knows him as “Oil Cann Harry".
Steve and Ruby were married in 1972 and had three beautiful daughters, Monica, Sarena, and Chaunte’. He began his career as a dedicated Lineman at Texas Electric having been essential in maintaining the electrical grid throughout the city of Fort Worth and instrumental in the maintenance of the electrical system of AT&T Stadium and Globe Life Field. After 43 years of dedicated service, Stephen retired from Oncore Electric Delivery as an Operations Supervisor.
In August of 2012, Steve married his love and friend Sandra Kay. Steve successfully completed the United Way’s Blueprint for Board Service. He also graduated Leadership of Fort Worth, and has sat on Boards for Directors and served in administration at various churches in the Fort Worth community.
His passion for serving others was reflected as he left an imprint within: Tarrant Area Food Bank as the Director of The Stop Six Mobile Food Pantries, United Way, Kimbro Juvenile Detention Center, Clergy and Police Alliance ( CAPA) Fort worth Police Department, Chief Advisory Board, Former Thrive Group Leader, former Board Member of Inspiring Temple of Praise, former choir member of Sweet Home Baptist Church, former Board member of Trinity Metro, CEO of Big Steve’s Double Smoked Meats and Extra Large Turkey Legs, and a member of Panther Heights Neighborhood Association.
Special interests: Studying and sharing God’s Word, listening to music, singing, serving at food banks, barbecuing, traveling, working in his yard, and spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.
Special memories: Stylish and fashionable dresser, served meals during holidays and weekends to the unhoused community, loved swinging out, planting trees and working in the yard. He also wore many fashionable hats.
He is preceded in death by his mother Rena Mae; step-father Morris T. Glenn; step-mother Imogene Moten; and brother Patrick Moten.
He leaves behind his wife Sandra K. Baldwin; daughters Monica Baldwin Walker (Kevin), Sarena Baldwin Dunagan (Brian), and Dr. Chaunte’ O’Neil (Johnathan, Sr.); grandchildren Melvin White III (Destiny), Tiera Kinswaga (Shani), Kameela Walker, and Johnathan O’Neil Jr.; great granddaughter Naomi White; step-children Floyd Anthony, Lincoln Flowers Jr., Markel Franklin, Damion Franklin (Jovanae), Kaylan Franklin;
step-grandchildren Jean Flowers, The Franklins: Destiny, Amiya , Damion Jr., Maddyson, Evelyn, Layana, Ellise, Elliott, Scott and Caleb Robinson and Zoe Anderson; Father Booker T. Moten Jr.; sisters Sharon Armstrong (Louis) and Donna Moten; brothers Ronald and Michael Glenn; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many brothers and sisters in Christ.
