Pauline Susie McCurdy Pannell Morris, 93, born August 8, 1928, in Van Alstyne Texas, and died after a brief illness on February 14, 2022. She married Dan Phillip Pannell at age 17 in September 1945 in Tom Bean, Texas where they started their family and lived until about 1951 when they moved to Ft. Worth, Texas. Pauline worked as a secretary for St. Joseph’s Hospital in the emergency room and recovery room for twenty-six years. Her second marriage to Robert Morris on May 29, 1976, lasted until his death, January 17, 2016.
Pauline is preceded in death by maternal namesake grandmother Susie Elizabeth Hogue, and grandfather Lycurgus (Curg) Hunter, both Texas pioneers, paternal grandmother Quemille White, and grandfather Joseph George McCurdy, also both Texas pioneers, her parents, Bessie Pearl Hunter (Mama Bessie) and Samuel Martis McCurdy (Daddy Martis), her brothers George William McCurdy, Harrel Hunter McCurdy, Billy Joe McCurdy, Lester Lee (Jake) McCurdy, her first husband Dan Pannell, second husband, Robert Morris, her daughter, Lisa Kay Pannell Sanders, son, Larry Wayne Pannell, step-son Johnny Morris, and grandson Matthew Pannell.
Pauline is survived by her daughters, Judith Ann Pannell Lanford, Nancy Sue Pannell Penton, and Rebecca Lynn Pannell Ashmore (Robert), step-daughters Robin Morris, and Becky Morris, niece, Deborah McCurdy, grandchildren Cynthia Ann Lanford Tucker Titcomb (Tony), Lara Beth Lanford Sowell (Mark), Amy Lynn Jones Oliveira Jenkins (Allan), Susan Diane Lanford Goforth Trevino (Joe), Milton Raymond Jones, Marcus Pannell (Jennifer), Nicole Sharlene Penton Moore (James), Bradley Pannell, Nicholas Stephen Penton, Jason Sorensen (Nicole), Michael Schaut (Jenna), Jeremy Shane Sanders (Wendy), Zachary Nathan Sanders (Kirbi); great-grandchildren Jennifer Williams, Michael Williams (Cindy), William D. Tucker, Camille Sowell Riley (Stanley), Tyler Sowell (Abigail), Jonathan Sowell, Andria Sowell, Maggie Oliveira, Ross Oliveira, Selah Goforth, Alyssa Pannell, Dalton Pannell, Christopher Dale Teague, Jordan Jones, Bella Jones, Madison Jones, Kendall Penton Garcia (Mario), Makena Moore, Emmalisa Moore, Carly Sanders, Mallory Sanders, Kaitlynn Sorensen, Landyn Sorensen, Aaron Schaut, Samantha Schaut.
Great-great-grandchildren Alexander Sandoval, Stanley Riley III, Madeline Riley, Bodhi Williams and Mackenzie Cox.
Pauline lived through many changes in the world, the Stock Market Crash of 1929 which resulted in the Great Depression which lasted throughout the 1930’s. She has also witnessed some improved conditions for women, like the right to serve in juries in 1954, and the right to possess a credit card in the woman’s name with the passage of the Equal Credit Opportunity Act of 1974. She grew up on a farm picking cotton, and riding with her father in a horse-drawn wagon to the cotton gin to sell their cotton for the season. She also knew how to wring a chicken’s neck, chop it’s head off with an ax, pluck its feathers, and fry it to perfection in the cast iron skillet. To some, she was Mama, to some Memaw, to some Chickee, but to all, she was beloved, and will be missed.
