Nola Sharron Drury was born April 26, 1950, in Fort Worth to Harrold and Betty Owen. As a Fort Worth native her family has resided in Fort Worth since 1917. She graduated from R.L. Paschal High School and received a B.S. in Education from Abilene Christian University in 1972. She married Dewey Dearl Drury on December 28th, 1971. After graduating from ACU they moved to Fort Worth where Sharron was public school teacher for 3 years.
In 1976 she became the volunteer elementary PE teacher and coach at Southwest Christian School. She served as PTO President and on the Ways and Means committee. In 1985 she joined the SCS staff as a 6th grade teacher and coach. From there she served SCS as Dean of Students, President, 1st Varsity Football Coach, 1st Varsity Baseball Coach, Varsity Boys Basketball Coach and Developmental Officer until 2002. She then purchased Snelson Oilfield Lighting.
Sharron served on the Abilene Christian University Board of Trustees for 15 years from 2000-2015. She served as Chair of the Purpose and Governance Committee and the Board Development Committee. She also served as a member of the Compensation Committee and co-chaired the Presidential Transition Team in 2009-2010. Sharron served on the University Council from 2015 until her passing. Sharron received the Distinguished Alumni Citation from ACU in 1996.
Sharron was a member of the Fort Worth Woman’s Club. She served as President of the Sorosis Club & on various committees. She also assisted the gardening department in helping to upkeep the grounds around the club. .
As a member of Altamesa Church of Christ from its inception she helped create and served the children’s program T3 (The Way, The Truth and The Life) since 2015 until her passing.
Sharron is survived by son, Derrek Drury and wife, Laura of Fort Worth; daughters, Daley Miller and husband, Mitchell of Fort Worth, Denee’ Swindle and husband, Zach of Keller; grandchildren, Ty, Halle, Dabron, Carson, Emersyn and Knox Drury; Karis, Daley Klaire, Bain and Bandon Miller; Wyatt, Dylan and Gretchen Nola Swindle; brother, H. Dean Owen Jr. and wife, Marilyn of North Richland Hills; sister, Kim Williamson and husband, Martin of Bermuda; best friend, Kathy Boomer; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
