Funeral: 11am Monday at the West Freeway Church of Christ, 1900 South Las Vegas Trail, Fort Worth, Texas 76108. There will be a short viewing and visitation prior to the service beginning at 10:30. A private graveside burial service will be held at 2pm at Laurel Land Memorial Park in Fort Worth.
Neil was born March 6, 1933 in Eastland, Texas to Sam Wiley and Sarah Tennie Harrison Jones. He lived in Morton Valley, Desdemona and Rising Star, Texas, graduating from Rising Star High School in 1950. While in high school he participated in basketball, track, tennis and football. He played safety and quarterback on undefeated regional champion football teams in 1949 and 1950. He also won a medal at the Texas Relays in the Sprint medley relay. After High School he attended Cisco Junior College and graduated from Abilene Christian College with an accounting degree.
Neil moved to Fort Worth in 1955 and spent the bulk of his career in the oil and gas industry retiring from Oryx Production Company in 1992. Neil married the love of his life Billie Joy Marshall of Arlington September 29, 1956. As a member of the West Freeway Church of Christ he lived out his faith serving as an Elder for 27 years. After retirement Neil played golf and he and Joy traveled, and Neil played golf, and they served their church and Neil played golf, and they spent time with their family and Neil played golf. He was an accomplished golfer with a good touch around the greens and multiple holes in one to his credit. Neil was a fan of many sports taking special interest in TCU football.
Neil was preceded in death by his son Todd Jones, his parents, his father and mother in law Robert and Mae Marshall, his sister and brother in law Margie and Herschel Kent, his brother Johnny Jones, brother and sister in law Bobby and Frankie Marshall and sister in law Carole Marshall.
His is survived by his wife Joy, his son Mark and daughter in law Kim, daughter in law Sheryl Jones, his sister and brother in law Janis and L.C. Hounsel, sister in law Judy Jones, brother in law Hank Marshall, grandchildren Daniel and wife Julie, Sam, Kristen, Adam and Grant Jones and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, beloved friends and brothers and sisters in Christ.
In lieu of flowers the family encourages gifts to be made to Fosters Home for Children, 1779 North Graham Street, Stephenville, Texas 76401.
The family thanks his physicians, the staff at Community Hospice of Texas and the angels at Homeward Bound Caregivers.
