Nancy was born in Sonora, Texas to John and Ruth Lee Eaton. She spent her early years exploring Eaton Hill with her little brother Dan. As a young woman she excelled in academics, basketball, band, and was considered a leader of the Broncos class of 53’.
She attended Abilene Christian University and shortly thereafter married Norman Gene Groom of Fort Worth, Texas.
Gene and Nancy raised a family together for 57 years before his passing in 2009. They enjoyed antiquing, bottle hunting and spending time at the family ranch in London, Texas. Their children Diana and Mark raised their families alongside them in Fort Worth as well.
Nancy’s hobbies included flower arranging, investing, and volunteering at The Hills Church where she was a member. She thoroughly enjoyed her years on TV with Carpenters Children. Nancy was also a member of the PTA where she developed many lifelong friends.
Her greatest joy was spending time with her 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; they were a constant presence at her house during their youth. She taught them Texas History, how to explore, read them Miss Manners, kept them in Sunday school and demonstrated the importance of serving and loving others.
Nancy spent the latter years of her life with her husband Ted Turner, of Hurst, at her home in North Richland Hills. Ted was integral of her care at the end and the family is eternally grateful for him.
Nancy is preceded in death by her parents John and Ruth Lee, husband Norman Gene Groom, brother Dan Eaton, and niece Alicia Eaton.
She is survived by her husband, Ted Turner, daughter Diana Scott (John), son Mark Groom (Debbie), grandchildren Ashley Groom, Haley Thompson (Luke), Ryan Groom, Kristin Reed (Lucas), John Michael Scott, and great-grandchildren Blakely Reed, Sterling and Sawyer Thompson, and sister-in-law Dianne Eaton.
Nancy will also be missed by the many family members and friends who adored her sense of humor and wit. She was a gem and will be greatly missed by all.
Special thanks to Gladys Johnson, our dear friend who weathered the storm with us at the end.
