The Lord called Joy home on March 5, 2023. Some of us may be a little prejudiced, but we believe she might have been one of His sweetest. Her mom and dad would have said what a wonderful daughter, her brother believes she was a great sister, and her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren all loved her.
Joy was born on December 1, 1934 to Jack and Edna (McInnis) Bostick. She was 23 months younger than her brother Alton. She was born into a large family and got to know her Great Grand Father Powell, Her Grandfather and Grandmother McInnis, Grandfather Bostick, her two aunts and eleven of her twelve uncles as well as a multitude of cousins.
She spent her first four years living in Riverside of Fort Worth. Then in 1939 the family of four moved to the Polytechnic area of the city.
As a young girl she enjoyed the girls clubs of the times, Blue Birds, Girl Scouts and several others.
However more important to her was church. She was raised in the Baptist Church starting at Riverside Baptist then Poly Baptist. It was rare for the family to ever miss a service. Joy accepted Christ at an early age and remained a member of the Baptist Church for the rest of her life.
Minnie Joy was a very good student, always being on the Honor Roll. She attended D. Mc Ray Elementary, William James Junior High School and Polytechnic High School.
Shortly after she graduated, she met Gerald Hood. He was in the Air Force stationed at Carswell Air Base. Gerald was one of the nicest guys you might ever meet. The two of them fell in love and soon married. After he was discharged Gerald went to work on the Fort Worth Fire Department. They bought a home in the poly area. Joy's first child, Karen was born in 1953 and their son, Danny was born in 1958. They moved to Benbrook in the early sixties and lived there for almost 50 years before moving to their home in Weatherford in 2014.
During Joy's life she mourned the loss of two granddaughters and one great grandson: Tara Hood, Laura LeMaster, and Jacob Gonzales.
Joy's mother passed away in 2000 and her father in 2007 both well into their 90° and she lost the love of her life, Gerald in 2016. Other family losses included her sister-in law Clarice Bostick and Son-in-Law Jim Hurren, her grandparents and all uncles, aunts and many of her cousins.
Joy is survived by her daughter, Karen and granddaughter, Lana and her husband, Robert and their children, Katherine, Jaclyn, Genevieve, Meredith, Michael and Samuel. Joy's son, Danny and his wife, Cindy, their son, Shawn his wife Jenny, and their daughter, Ellie, son, David Ryan his wife, Casey and their sons, Asher and Braxton, daughter, Sarah and her daughters, Emma and Magnolia and daughter, Rachael and her husband, Spencer and their children, Peyton, Carter, Alexandria, Hayes. Also Joy's brother, Alton, his family and several cousins.
