Funeral services will be at 10:00 am February 23, 2016 at Shannon Rufe Snow Funeral Chapel in Fort Worth, Texas. She will be buried in a private ceremony at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park immediately following.
Mary was born on May 29, 1929 in St. Louis, Missouri to her parents, James Albert and Martha Jane (Whitecotton) Bowen. She was married to Homer L. Stephens for 42 years. She retired in 1994 after 40 years of selfless and dedicated service to the Nation's military families while at the Army & Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) and the Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA). Her passion for hard work and exemplary customer support won her numerous awards and recognition. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was a dedicated Army wife who relocated on numerous occasions to various U.S. and foreign locations. Her favorite past times were bowling, eating homemade fruitcake and hello dollies, playing Uno, solving puzzles and watching sports. All those around her will affectionately remember her entertaining “straight” talk and her infectious humor.
Ms. Stephens is preceded in death by her parents, her former husband, Homer; her four sisters, Beatrice, Bonnie, Jessie Jewell, Ida Lee; five brothers, James, Gorden, Robert, Basil, Baby Bowen, Dallas; grandson, Mark Stephens; and son-in-law, Edward Dale Davis.
She is survived by her four loving children and their spouses: Billy and Cheryl Stephens, Duluth, Minnesota; Tommy and Pamela Stephens, Grapevine, Texas; Karen Davis of North Richland Hills, and Jimmy and Cindy Stephens, Wilmington, North Carolina. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Reverend Ralph and Dorothy Bowen; 8 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
