Born in Florence, Kan., on Aug. 3, 1926, she was the daughter of Frank and Frances Mayme Watkins Scott. After attending 18 schools in 12 years, she graduated in 1943 from Kilgore High School. A stay-at-home mother to four children, she was also a talented artist, devoted John Knox Presbyterian Church Sunday school teacher, and a PTA life member and an active PTA leader at her children's many Castleberry ISD schools. Her spontaneity, love of life and quick sense of humor always made her a welcome addition to any event or gathering.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Joe Patterson Castleberry; their son, Jack Herman Castleberry; and her siblings, Tom Scott, Elizabeth Driggers and Margaret Braddock. Also, she was preceded by lifelong church friends, Doris Dowell, Patty Harrington, Retta Klovstad and Maddie King; and PTA colleagues, Barbara James, Harriet Gallagher and Alice Jane Ashlock, among others.
Survivors: Daughter, Mary Elizabeth Ebert and husband, Christopher; son, Joe Patterson Castleberry II and wife, Janice; and daughter, Amy Wessels and husband, Jeffrey. She is also survived by her sisters, Patricia Ann Searl and husband, Gordan, and Harriett Hoote. She was a much-loved "Grandmommy" to grandchildren: Mary Jane Debenport and husband, Mark, Elizabeth James and husband, Alastair, Rebecca Caroline Cancellare, Travis Castleberry and wife, Elizabeth, and Olivia Wessels. Additional adoring family includes great-grandchildren; Madison, Lily, Christopher and Austin Debenport, Georgia and Oscar James, CeCelia and Nina Cancellare, and Alexander Castleberry.
