Mary Jo (Worthington) Brownell, 83, of Fort Worth went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 9, 2024. She was a beloved Christian, Mother, Grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend, and her joy and passion will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Mary Jo was born on October 5, 1941 in Fort Worth, TX to Charles and Myrtle (Jock) Worthington. She attended numerous universities, and had several degrees and accreditations. Her deep love of education showed throughout her 51 years of teaching. She taught in 5 school districts and countless schools, but ended up loving and staying with the Mansfield ISD for 33 years.
The only thing more important than her daughters and grandkids was her love of Jesus. If the church doors were open she was inside. She was actively involved at Sagamore Hill Baptist Church in the choir, as a G.A. director, on church committees, at church camps, at VBS or just spending time with those that needed it. In recent years she attended and sang in the choir at Travis Avenue Baptist Church and found her home again at Christ Chapel.
Mary Jo was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Myrtle Worthington, her brother and sister in law, Don and Kay Worthington, her sister, Charlene Trotter, niece Diane Worthington and grandson Matthew. Mary Jo is survived by her cherished daughters Natalie and Rachel; grandchildren William, Elizabeth and Charlee Jo; and beloved son-in-laws, nephews, nieces and cousins.
The family invites relatives and friends to a celebration of Mary Jo's life with a visitation on Friday, November 15, 2024, from 6pm to 8pm at Laurel Land Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at 11am followed by burial at Laurel Land Memorial Park.
