Dr. Linda Ruth Nance Marks was born May 6, 1939 in Fort Worth, Texas to William Walter Nance, Jr and Verna Ruth Sandlin Nance. She graduated from Paschal High School and earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Texas Christian University in 1961. She earned a Master of Science from Texas Women's University in 1969 and a Doctor of Education from Nova University in 1979. As a new nurse, she worked as an Occupational Health Nurse at Texas Steel Company, then as a Public Health Nurse at the Tarrant County Health Department. She then spent over 25 years as a nursing educator, retiring from the University of Texas at Arlington as an associate professor of nursing in 1998. She estimated that she had taught over 2,000 nurses during her career, in the generic program, skills lab, and RN-to-BSN program. She was very proud of the high skill level of her graduates, and was a demanding patient advocate for her family members.
Linda taught herself to quilt and spent many hours quilting and socializing with the quilting group. She made many quilts for herself and others, and often gave special quilts as baby and wedding gifts. She made over one hundred quilts, both for those she loved and for those who needed love. She quilted a good number of prize winning quilts that she donated to charities and goodwill causes in her local community. She was especially proud of a complex Bargello pattern that she recently completed. Her last project was a quilt for her oldest grandchild to take with when she leaves for college.
