John Christian "Chris" Smith went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 16th at a hospice facility after a long illness. He was 76 years old.
Chris was born and raised in Sweetwater, Texas. He volunteered for the Army in 1967 and then became an airborne ranger with the 82nd Brigade. He was attached to the 173rd airborne Brigade in 1969-1970 in Vietnam where he received a purple heart and army commendation medal among many other medals and honors. After his time in the service, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Stephen F. Austin University in Texas.
He worked at Miller Brewery for over 20 years where he made many lifelong friends. Chris enjoyed hunting, fishing, and making people laugh. He helped many people throughout his life and was loved by all who knew him.
Chris is survived by his three children John "Chris" Smith II of Crowley, Daniel Smith of Granbury, Jena Gile of Willow Park, sister Melody McKissick of Irving, brother George Berry of Grapevine, six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
