We called each other best friends. And we truly were. We could spend hours on the phone. Talking about his childhood, college years, work life and his daughters. Stories upon stories. He always had a funny joke and never, ever failed to make me smile. We loved to find words that we could share with one another, frequently starting our conversations with, Hey! Have you heard of this word? He was generous and kind and always, always finding a tiny surprise to give me each time we met. A tiny moccasin, a prayer coin, a wooden cross and many many more. I miss him so much, but all of the wonderful memories that I hold in my heart make me feel as if I could call him up right now. The nights spent at his house and the time spent with him in Angel Fire are cherished, as is our sweet friendship. He was more than just a grandfather, he was truly one of my best friends. 🧡

Joe was my family’s friend and neighbor in Angel Fire, NM.  We have shared many a bowl of popcorn in his cabin and played a lot of golf.  We have fond memories of time with his daughters and granddaughters - riding 4 wheelers and hiking through the woods.  Joe treated our family like we were his own.  Even our dogs were buddies.  RIP sweet Joe!

Joe always had an encouraging word for me, and even went out of his way to remember my grandkids on their birthdays.  We met only a few years ago at Bob and Cindy’s New Years Eve party, but he always made me feel special by treating me as a treasured friend. He would search for jokes to send me by text, usually short ones, (try texting on a flip phone!) but that was his choice! Sure am missing this special man.
