Jean was the daughter of August Otto Mahler and Anna Mae (Phillips) Mahler. She was born on December 21, 1936 in Wichita Falls, Texas and was raised near Holliday, Texas. On July 6, 1956 she married Hershell Hunter of Era, Texas, who preceded her in death on July 14, 2014.
As a young woman she worked a number of places including Texas Instruments and The Printing Center in Fort Worth. She loved volleyball and played up into her early 80’s. She and her teammates won numerous gold medals at the Huntsman Senior Games and in USVBA Senior competitions. She also loved playing games and cards and still played bridge with her weekly group up until near the time of her death.
She is survived by her daughter Laura Hunter and her husband Ted Hill, and her son Kyle Hunter and his wife Kelly Hunter. She had three grandchildren Whitney Hunter and her husband Alex, Tessa Hill, and Isaac Hunter. She also had two great-grandchildren, Bennett and Georgie Hunter. She had many nieces and nephews, too numerous to name, many of whom viewed her as a second mother and many friends who loved her dearly.
Jean was a big personality who loved bold, bright colors. If you are attending her memorial service you should feel free to dress in a way that would reflect her personality.
