Jack was born to Ernest and Mary Etta (Wackerly) Gray on August 31, 1929 in Bradford, Arkansas. His father made his living as a sharecropper until having a good yield to buy the family farm in Oil Trough, Arkansas.
Jack was a preacher for many years and in later years attended Highland Church of Christ as a member. He loved woodworking, collecting seashells, and rocks. When we were young he always ran or jogged at the high school track … then he started running races in Fort Worth for fun … he took up competitive racing in later years to win nearly a thousand awards and trophies. He has passed the love of running onto Ryan and his family, with one great grandchild racing in a 5k this past weekend.
Jack was preceded in death by his father, Ernest, and his mother, Etta. Siblings, Joan Rooks, Zane Gray, and Neva Holt. Son, Robert “Bob” Gray. Son in law, John Acaley.
He is survived by his children, Sherry Mullins, Ann Acaley, and David Gray. His grandchildren, Ryan Beaupre’ and wife Christa, Lee Mullins, Emily Barger and husband Bo, Heather Lozano and husband Javier, Ben Acaley, Joel Gray and wife Ashley, and Erin Gray-Moore. Eleven great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. His friends, especially from the running community.
