David married the former Anna Jean Wagnon on Feb. 21, 1948 (deceased 1984), and Jeanette Louise Stevenson on June 1, 1985 (deceased 2007).
Col. Woods was born July 28, 1927, in Archer County, son of the late David A. Woods Sr. and Dottie Woods. He served his country with honor and distinction for 30 years in the United States Merchant Marine and Air Force during World War II and the Korean and Vietnam wars where he won numerous Air Medals, the Distinguished Flying Cross, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star and Meritorious Service medals. He was a command pilot on C-119, C-123, KC-97 and KC-135 aircraft. Additionally, he commanded the 11th Air Refueling Squadron, Altus Air Force Base, Okla., the 301st Air Refueling Wing, Rickenbacker Air Force Base, Ohio, and served as deputy commander for operations, Northern NATO Air Forces, Norway.
Survivors: Wife, Melba Woods of Fort Valley, Ga.; sons, David III and his wife, Melonie, of Port Aransas, Jon and his wife, Susan, of Mansfield; stepdaughter, Debbie Lee of Fort Worth; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
