She spent her childhood in Houston, moving to Crowley, LA in her early teen years and finally
settled with the family in Beaumont, TX. Ann graduated from Beaumont High School in 1953.
She treasured her classmates for decades to follow, enjoying numerous, wonderful Class
Reunions. In 1957, she graduated from Southern Methodist University with a Bachelor of Arts
degree, and was truly proud to have been a member of Chi Omega Sorority and Kirkos.
In her early adult years, she worked for Exxon and spent a year working for the U.S.
government in Ecuador. While working at Exxon in 1965, she met her future husband, Moody
Flowers. They were married in Houston's St. Paul's Methodist Church in 1967, and welcomed
their son, Clarke, in December 1969. During this time, she enjoyed teaching Sunday school,
being a part of civic organizations and most of all cheering Clarke on in all of his athletic
ventures from grade school through the excitement of watching him play football at Texas A&M
University. Also during this time, Ann, a lifelong learner, continued her post graduate education
and received her Masters of Arts in Applied English Linguistics from the University of Houston.
Channeling her knowledge back into her community, Ann taught at Houston Community
College. In October 1997, she married Tom Tanner, who preceded her in death in April 2009.
She and her first husband Moody remained close friends until his passing in 2019.
Throughout her life, she enjoyed and was proud to be a part of many different organizations.
Ann was honored to be a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, Daughters of the
American Revolution, a Bayou Bend Docent, the Colonial Dames of America Chapter VIII, Ima
Hogg Ceramic Circle, Junior-Current Literature Club, and the Brown Thumb Garden Club, just to
name a few. Her faith was a very important part of who she was, and carried her through these
last few years. She was a faithful Methodist her entire adult life, and enjoyed her many
activities, friends and worship with the Westminster United Methodist and First United Methodist
churches of Houston.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Westminster United Methodist in Houston, 5801 San
Felipe, on Friday, March 25 at 11:00am. If you wish to visit with family beforehand, visitation will
be 30 minutes prior to the service.
Ann is preceded in death by her parents, Wroe and Dorothy Nell Alexander; her sister, Dorothy
Alexander Baird; her brother-in-law, Clayton Baird; and her nephew, Clayton 'Mac' Baird.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Clarke and Mindy Flowers; grandchildren: Jake, Ella
and Grady Flowers; niece: Debbie Baird; cousins: Jayne Gamel, Lee Brown and Tommy
Alexander; and family members; Rhonda and Billy Glisson, Waymon and Francis Armstrong,
Russ and Natasha Armstrong, Pat Wilkerson, Larry Wheeler, and Andrew, Gina and Anderson

Methodist Church.
