William Lay

William Lay, 100, of Fort Wayne, passed away Monday, December 26, 2022 at Georgetown Place in Fort Wayne. He was born on December 4, 1922 in Liberty, Kentucky to the late Elliott and Cora (Atwood) Lay. Mr. Lay honorably answered his Country’s call and served in the United States Army during World War II. He married Bess Hamilton in Indianapolis; she preceded him in death in 2010. William worked in Machine setup for Chrysler. He enjoyed fishing, riding his bike, helping his neighbors, and loved to eat. William is survived by his son, Rodney (Jan) Lay; granddaughter, Amy (Brent) Stafford; great-granddaughter, Brenna Stafford; four step-grandchildren; and five step great-grandchildren. Also preceding him in death were ten siblings. Funeral services will be on Saturday, December 31, 2022 at 1 PM at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 Saint Joe Road, Fort Wayne. Calling will be two hours before the service. Burial will take place Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at Washington Park East Cemetery.
