Sharon Jean (Rogers) White, 73, departed this life surrounded by her children and friends on June 10, 2023, at Kingston Rehabilitation Center in Fort Wayne. Sharon was the oldest of eight children belonging to the late Charles H. and Katie B. Rogers, born on March 19, 1950, in Gary, Indiana.
Sharon accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of several churches, with her current church home being New Covenant Worship Center. Sharon J. White was a graduate of Roosevelt High School, class of 1968. Sharon would often talk about her fond memories of Roosevelt, including meeting the love of her life, her husband, Jerry Thomas White, who preceded her in death in 2007.
Sharon’s pride and joy were her two children, Kimberly White, of Fort Wayne, and Dr. Brandon (Grant Tyler) White, of Crystal Lake, Illinois. Beyond their educational and professional successes, Sharon was most proud of Kim and Brandon for making her a grandmother to four amazing children. Bruce Tyler-White, currently serving in the U.S. Army; Ryleigh and Julian Masterson of Fort Wayne; and Grace Tyler-White of Crystal Lake.
Upon high school graduation, Sharon began her career in the field of secretarial services. Sharon worked at Standard Oil as an executive assistant in Chicago, Illinois, until Jerry and Sharon were married in 1971, and Jerry’s career in education brought them to Fort Wayne, Indiana. Sharon worked for Magnavox and worked for 30+ years in various roles with Fort Wayne Community Schools until her retirement in 2008.
Sharon was known to her family and friends for her amazing cooking, quick wit, unapologetic candor, and most importantly, her unwavering love and support for all those she cared about. Sharon also leaves behind siblings, Laoweda Dumas, Charles Rogers, Jr., Raymond Rogers, Sr., Sherman Rogers, Acquanetta (Scott) McKinney, and a special cousin, Carnella Parker.
Sharon was also preceded in death by her brother, Darryl Rogers, and sister, Pamela Rogers.
Beyond the host of in-laws, nieces, cousins, and friends, Sharon also leaves her special "sister" friends, Kathy Carr, Agnes Johnson, Mary Lowery, Anita Nevils, Patricia Pruitt, and her sister-in-law Valerie Pickens, to remember her fondly.
Viewing will take place on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, from 4:00–8:00 p.m., with family hour beginning at 6:00 p.m. at D.O. McCombs and Sons Funeral Home - Lakeside Park at 1140 Lake Avenue (46805). Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at New Covenant Worship Center, 3420 Paulding Road (46816), at 10:00 a.m., with calling one hour prior. Burial will follow in Highland Park Cemetery.
